OceanMax Pure White Sand (Fine)

OceanMax Pure White Sand Fine is a very fine, bright white aquarium sand used as a decorative base layer in fish tanks and aquascapes.

It's one of those substrates chosen mainly for appearance, not just function.

What it is

  • A fine-grain aquarium sand (not gravel, not coral sand)
  • Made to be chemically inert (so it shouldn't change pH or hardness)
  • Designed for freshwater aquariums and aquascaping setups
  • Usually comes in bags like 2 kg, 5 kg, etc.

How it looks in a tank

  • Very bright, clean white "beach sand" effect
  • Makes tanks look bigger, brighter, and more modern
  • Fish colours look more intense against it

Grain size & texture

  • Very fine particles (around 0.11 mm depending on batch)
  • Feels soft like sand, not gravel
  • Easy for fish like Corydoras and shrimp to move through safely

Benefits

  • Strong visual impact (very "show tank" look)
  • Safe for most freshwater fish if rounded and rinsed properly
  • Good for light aquascaping and shrimp tanks
  • Doesn't usually affect water chemistry

Downsides (important)

  • Shows dirt immediately (fish waste is very visible)
  • Needs regular cleaning/siphoning
  • Can cloud water if not rinsed thoroughly before use
  • Fine grains can compact slightly over time
  • Strong filter flow can stir it up

Best suited for

  • Display tanks / aquascapes
  • Shrimp tanks
  • Corydoras and other bottom dwellers
  • Lightly stocked community aquariums
