WW1 W/M and British VM named to 2 Lieut. R.L Kirk. Kirk attested into the 6th SAI in late 1915 and served in East Africa until being sent home due to continuous illness in early 1917. Once he had recovered from his ordeal he attested into the 7th London Regiment and joined them in France on 30.08.1918. The following day, whilst leading his men during the attack on the village of Rancourt he was killed in action. His body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial. Service papers included, show that the pair was his only entitlement. A typed up researched page reflects the two extracts in the Civil service Rifles in the Great War by Jill Knight and the History of the Prince of Wales Own Civil Service Rifles Wyman & Sons Ltd where Kirk is mentioned. Extract also outlines detail of specific action. Lot also includes London Regiment badge as well as a close up of Kirk's name on the Durban Town War memorial, KwaZulu-Natal.
