The Official Presidential Medallion Commemorating the Inauguration of Nelson Mandela in 1994. The medallion was designed by Arthur Sutherland (obverse) and Susan Erasmus (reverse) and was struck at the SA Mint. It comes with all the original packing material (folder and box embossed with the obverse design) and pamphlets including the CofA.
Toned bronze. Diameter 74.5 mm. Mass 195 gm. This is a large and heavy medallion. It is not a scarce item but, at the same time, examples are not often seen for sale.
The medallion comes with provenance! It was won by me in a raffle at the recent dinner organised by the Natal Numismatic Society held the evening before the annual Durban Coin Show. As proof there is a picture of me holding my prize. The successful bidder should nominate a charity of his or her choice to which I will donate 90% of the bid price.
