The Official Gold Medal Struck by the S.A. Mint for the Occasion of the Independence of Bophuthatswana on 6 September 1977.  This medal is much scarcer than the gold commemorative medal from the South African Historical Mint. 

18ct Gold (so marked by the SAM mint mark on the reverse).  Diameter 38.2 mm.  Mass 41.4 gm.  Individually numbered on the edge - this one: "189".  Come inside the original red case from the S.A. Mint.

The actual gold content is exactly 1 Troy ounce. There is no certificate (I don't think that one was made) so I have included an image of the medal on my scales to confirm the mass.
