Jan Van den Berg from the farm Doornbult, district Wolmaransstad, Field Cornetcy ward 3, was 22 years of age when captured at Paardeberg on 27/2/1900..
This rather battered cover was:
1. posted from Ladybrand on "FE 21 '01" with cds and
2. BONC 17 attributed to Ladybrand. It then
3. transitted Bloemfontein on "FE 22 01" and arrived
4. at Green Point on ""FE 27 '01" - backstamp.
5. the type 15 yellow paper "Opened Under Martial Law" seal used at Ladybrand,
6. initials "TDV" of the censor in manuscript blue crayon
7. censor initials "Q R" applied at Ladybrand
8. the very scarce 38 mm long purple handstamped "PRISONER OF WAR" cahet.
9. Because of the invalid use of the OFS adhesives it was taxed 2d as indicated in blue crayon - "T 2d"
