26 April 1900 censored cover from "P.A.K. QUAGGASHOEK / OVS" (Putzel - Very Rare) addressed to "Mr. S. Ralph: Krygsgevanger, Van Staat Artellerie, Simonstadt, S.S. Mongolian, C. C."
Mauve circular "CENSOR / PRISONER OF WAR" handstamp and pink "V.R. OPENED UNDER MARTIAL LAW" label.
Routed via "BULTFONTEIN AP 26", "JOHANNESBURG ?/MEI '00" and "DURBAN / NATAL 9 MAY 1900".
STEPHANUS RALPH, POW number 6277, was captured at PAARDEBERG on 27 FEbruary 1900 when 35 years old, and then kept prisoner aboard the POW Warship "SS MONGOLIAN" in Simonstown harbour before being sent to Ceylon where he was quartered at the DIYATALAWA POW camp.
