This is a copy of the scarce first edition, which was later reprinted in the 1990s, bound in a much brighter, green cloth.
Pictorial top board and titles in black to spine. Some rubbing at corners. Bookplate of the collector Maurice Green to front paste down. Some light foxing to the prelims up to pp 5. Poor binding technique leaves some tearing to final plate of Groote Schuur, although not encroaching to the image.
B/W illustrations throughout.
