This is a detailed pen-and-ink drawing depicting a scene during a polo game. It appears to be an early partial copy of an engraving in Harper's Weekly 16 February 1895. The sketch from which the illustration was engraved was made by Major H W Helyar. (I would like to think that this is that original sketch - but that is a very unlikely conjecture.)
The article accompanying the Harper's Weekly illustration stated that 'the player who was crossed was sent clean out of the saddle, and, turning a complete somersault in the air, fell on his back' without serious injury.
Please note that the printed image from Harper's Weekly is supplied for reference purposes only. It is not included in the sale of the original drawing.
The image area is 28 x 21 cm.
The picture appears to have been laid onto card by the framer. It has a little foxing (seen in the images) and is sold without frame and glass.
