The Olympus Superzoom 800S is a fully-automatic autofocus lens-shutter camera with a built-in zoom lens and a programmed electronic shutter. This Olympus compact digital camera has a 38 mm-80 mm lens comprised of five elements in four groups.

It has an f/stop range of f/4.5-8.9 and uses a DX-coded (24 mm by 36 mm) standard film format of 35 mm. The focusing range provided by this active-type autofocus system is 0.6 m (2 feet) to infinity with 2x magnification and the system works with a focus lock, making it a user-friendly device.

The autofocus in the Olympus Superzoom 800S makes it easy for the amateur to make up a frame and even shoot high-resolution photographs in any location. The real-image viewfinder on this compact digital camera features an autofocus indicator, a flash indicator, autofocus marks, and close-up correction marks.

An electronic self-timer with an approximately 12 s delay allows for self-photography using this Olympus 35 mm film camera. Film loading, winding, and rewinding functions are all automatic on the Olympus 35 mm film camera.

The film speeds for various photographic films vary and are set automatically as ISO ratings of 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 for DX-coded films, with lower speed ratings for non-DX coded films. Weighing 195 g (6.9 oz), this Olympus 35 mm film camera body measures 11.7 cm wide by 6.2 cm high by 4 cm deep (4.6 inches by 2.4 inches by 1.6 inches) without protrusions.
