A unique account of the rigours and horrors of the "Forgotten Front". British adminstrators regarded it as a sideshow and thus those fighting faced a huge lack of supplies. They covered 750, 000 square miles largely on foot through bush, enduring heat, wild animals and disease.

More men died of disease and malnutrition than of wounds from battle. Some soldiers sent from the European front wished themselves back in the Somme theatre. The story appeals to those who know nothing of WW1 in Africa as well as students of the subject, a useful resource for historians.
