ONE-DIMENSIONAL MAN

Herbert Marcuse

Condition: Fair to good. Sphere Library paperback edition, red cover with bold black and white title lettering. Moderate surface wear, creasing to spine and edges, interior pages intact and unmarked.

About the Book:
First published in 1964, One-Dimensional Man is Herbert Marcuses seminal critique of modern industrial society. The book argues that advanced technological civilization creates false needs and suppresses critical thought, resulting in conformity and a loss of individual freedom. Marcuse identifies how social, economic, and political systems manipulate both workers and consumers into passive acceptance of the status quo. The work became a cornerstone of 1960s countercultural and student movements.

About the Author:
Herbert Marcuse (18981979) was a German-American philosopher and political theorist associated with the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory. He taught at the University of California, San Diego, and was noted for his influence on the New Left through his critiques of capitalist consumer culture and bureaucratic control.
