Spur Steakhouse Native American Chief Design Cups

The Native American chief design has long been a signature theme of Spur Steak Ranches in South Africa.

By the early 1980s, the founder of Spur recognized a cultural shift taking place in the country and sought to send a welcoming message to people of colour. While selecting imagery from a local tribe might have been met with resistance from certain groups at the time, he chose to feature Native American symbolisma culture he deeply admiredwhich was broadly accepted by the public.

Although the branding has since sparked debate, the founder believed that changing it would not be appropriate, especially given how iconic and recognizable the Native American figurehead logo has become across South Africa.
