Onions are the basis for many cooked and uncooked meals. Red onions are sweeter than white onions and are sought after because of this.
Sow seed in a pot or tray of compost. The seeds are small but try and space them about 1cm apart. Lightly cover with a thin layer of compost then mist to moisten.
When the seedlings are a few inches tall, transplant them into fresh compost in beds. Once established, transplant seedlings into the garden, 10-15cm apart.
Using a watering can with a rose, thoroughly water seedlings and sets directly after planting to settle soil around roots or bulbs. Repeat at regular intervals if the weather is dry.
Hoe regularly removes weeds, which will compete for water and nutrients with developing bulbs. A hand-held 'onion hoe' or 'circle hoe' are both perfect for weeding in small spaces.
In late summer, draw away the earth from the bulbs to expose them to the sun. Harvest after the leaves turn yellow and the stem bends over. Allow leaves to dry before carefully lifting bulbs.
Minimum of 50 seeds per pack (Seed quantity may differ)
All seeds are tested and grown on our farm in Malawi and our growing area in South Africa. Please check the conditions in your area for the type of seed to be grown. Growth rates and germination times are dependent on many factors such as soil conditions, rainfall/watering patterns, climate, and many more.
Growth and harvest can be affected by these conditions. Please note that certain countries require specific permission to grow certain plants or ban their growth completely. Please check your local regulations before purchasing products.
We will not be held responsible for products purchased that are not allowed in your country/province
