Hulle plaas het hulle self laat afbrand, en 'n onderlinge verdrag laat gedy hulle daar saam met Jan Witsie en sy half-Basotho, half-Griekwa mense.
Maar dis die verkeerde tyd vir Anne om te blom toe Mentz se burgers die gevange jong Kakie-luitenant daar los - verlief soos sy is, en blind vir die onvermydelike: dat die burgers sal terugkom, en dat hulle bloed sal soek.
En so word nog 'n konflik gebore, want Soph se eie broer, blink Frans Naudé, is deel van daardie Wraakkommando.
