OVAL FACETED OPAL VINTAGE 9CT YELLOW AND WHITE GOLD RING WITH BRIGHT WHITE STONE RUFF

This vintage piece features an oval cut fire opal claw set in 9ct white gold. The gemstone is framed by a ruff of round faceted bright white stones, also set in 9ct white gold claws. I am not sure what the white stones are - the ring is too old for them to be cubic zirconias, so I suspect they are 'paste'. They have very good sparkle nonetheless; they have the same feel as a white topaz. The opal has no chips or cracks, but it does have buff marks in keeping with its age. The shank is a simple slender 9ct yellow gold band that forks vertically on the shoulders to support the 12mm long x 11mm wide ring head which reaches 6mm above the finger. The piece weighs a good 2,51 grams. The pedigree of the piece is evident in its many hallmarks - 375 indicating 9ct gold, the London Assay mark, and the jeweller's signature. I obtained the piece from a vintage jeweller in Birmingham, and the date is illegible - but judging by the hallmark design and font, the piece has some serious vintage history behind it!
