OPTEX LX-402 Outdoor Passive Infrared Detector

The OPTEX LX-402 Outdoor Passive Infrared Detector is a wide-angle outdoor PIR designed for perimeter detection, lighting control, camera triggering and alarm input applications. It is suited to residential, commercial and installer-led security projects where movement needs to be detected across a broad outdoor area. With a 120° detection pattern, adjustable sensitivity, day/night operation and masking strips for unwanted areas, it gives your installer practical control over how the detector responds on site.

• Wide outdoor coverage. The LX-402 covers up to 12 m x 15 m with a 120° wide-angle detection pattern, making it useful for driveways, garden approaches, courtyards, entrances and open perimeter areas.
• Built for outdoor use. The IP54-rated housing is designed for wall-mounted indoor or outdoor installation where the detector is exposed to normal weather conditions.
• Reduces nuisance triggering. Double conductive shielding helps resist interference from unrelated light sources such as sunlight and vehicle headlights.
• Day and night operating modes. The built-in light sensor allows the detector to be set for day, night, or 24-hour operation, depending on how it is being used.
• Flexible detection setup. Selectable Multi-Level and Pet Alley detection patterns help adapt the coverage to the installation area and reduce unwanted detection in selected zones.
• Area masking included. Masking strips allow your installer to block out parts of the detection area, useful where trees, bushes, roads or neighbouring movement could cause unwanted activation.
• Adjustable response sensitivity. High, medium and low sensitivity settings let the installer tune the detector to suit the site environment.
• Security system friendly. Form C relay output and a tamper switch make the unit suitable for integration with compatible alarm panels, lighting controllers, DVR triggers and camera control systems.

Compatibility & App Support

The LX-402 is a wired outdoor PIR detector and does not use a mobile app. It connects to compatible third-party alarm, lighting, camera or recording equipment using its relay output, provided the receiving device supports the required input type and voltage ratings. Professional installation is recommended to ensure the detection angle, mounting height, wiring and day/night settings are correctly configured.

Did You Know?

• Outdoor PIR detectors work by detecting changes in temperature between a moving object and the background. They are most effective when a person moves across the detection beams, rather than walking directly towards the detector.
• The Pet Alley setting is not the same as a guaranteed pet-proof alarm zone. It changes the detection pattern so that the installer can reduce lower-level detection but the final result still depends on mounting height, site layout, animal size and movement in the area.
• The LX-402 can be used for more than alarm triggering. With the correct connected equipment, it can help activate lighting, trigger recording or provide an input to a compatible camera or DVR system.
