Charges, tests, desulfates and maintains exactly as it should. Every function on the unit does what it is supposed to do. This is a fully functional OptiMate 7, not a project or a spares unit.
The OptiMate 7 Select sits at the top of the OptiMate range. It is not just a charger. It tests, desulfates, recovers, charges and then maintains a 12V battery indefinitely, and it doubles as a DC power supply. Suits STD, AGM, GEL and AGM Spiral Cell, so it covers a bike battery, a bakkie, a boat or a deep cycle setup off the same unit.
Ampmatic current control matches the charge to the battery instead of pushing a fixed rate into it. Leave it connected long term and it looks after the battery rather than cooking it. This is the charger you put on a bike over winter and forget about.
All three connection leads are included, which is the part people usually end up buying separately. The weatherproof eyelet lead bolts permanently onto the battery, so you route it out once and after that you just plug in. No lifting the seat or fighting past bodywork every time.
HONEST WEAR DISCLOSURE
It is second hand and it looks it. None of the below stops it working, but I would rather you read it here than find it in the box:
- The crocodile clamp lead has been run over by a car. The black negative clamp is visibly bent and the jaws no longer close dead flush. It still opens, grips a terminal and works correctly. It is ugly, not broken. Close up photo included so you can judge for yourself.
- Corrosion and staining on the clamp jaw faces. Normal for a used charger, still makes good contact.
- A 3 pin round pin SA plug has been fitted in place of the original 2 pin. Neatly done, works flawlessly, goes straight into a normal wall socket. Worth knowing it will not fit every slim multiplug or extension.
- Label damage. There is a tear and some scuffing on the white label on the front. Cosmetic only.
