Up for auction/sale is a highly collectible lot of vintage fiscal/revenue stamps from the Orange Free State (Oranje Vrij Staat) and the subsequent British colonial administration era as the Orange River Colony.
This selection is presented on a single page and features a fantastic range of denominations, overprints, and classic document cancellations, making it a perfect addition for any specialist in Southern African colonial history or revenue philately.
Lot Highlights & Contents:
Republican Era & Occupation Issues: The top half features the iconic "Oranje Vrij Staat" revenue designs. This includes standard republican issues along with several sought-after "V.R.I." (Victoria Regina Imperatrix) British occupation overprints from the Anglo-Boer War transition period. Denominations present run up to Een Pond and Twee Pond.
Orange River Colony (King Edward VII Era): The lower sections display the Edwardian key plate revenue issues, ranging from lower values like Six Pence up to Two Pounds. Also features an example of the Queen Victoria design overprinted for Deed Revenue.
Cancellations & Postal History Interest: The stamps bear authentic, crisp fiscal and administrative cancellations.
