Origanum hirtum - Greek Origanum

Greek Origanum is a wonderfully fragrant herb, with fantastic flavour in the dark green leaves and small white flowers.  This plant prefers drier climates, so keep the foilage and roots away from too much moisture.  Give the plant good air circulation.

This plant is excellent to grow in a container, or grow as a ground cover.  The plant enjoys plenty of sunshine.  However in areas that are very hot, the plant will benefit from shade in the afternoon. The plant can spread to a width of 45-60cm.  Plant in well drained soil, for best results.  Once established the plants can survive on rainfall, however if you are going through a bad drought cycle, water once a week.  Water the container plants whenever the soil is dry. 

Green oregano is a perennial. Established plants can survive a bit of frost.  Use a frost blanket if you are expecting bad frost, or if your plants are new.
