ORIGINAL - 1800's Lead Smelting Pot for Musket Shot
This item is an ORIGINAL cast iron lead smelting pot from
the early to mid - 1800s. The evidence of excessive use is present in the white residue on the inside of the vessel - a byproduct of the lead smelting process.
This item was obtained from the Weenen area of Northern KwaZulu-Natal , and would have been used on the frontier in the production of lead shot for muskets.
The pot shows signs of age related wear and tear, owing to the fact that it is well over 150 years old.
An ideal collector's piece for those interested in the history of South Africa's frontiers and conflicts that occurred during and after the Great Trek.
