This is a 1821 non-regulation pattern infantry officer's sword, with newly made wood & leather scabbard. The sword was severely rusted before conservation work, so there is no visible makers or retailers markings on the sword. The smith added a decorative disk in the "dish" formed by the top rim of the hand guard, which is easily removable.
Please note, the sword is functional, carbon steel made to pass stringent tests, especially the 1845 pattern onwards which would have been subjected to the Wilkinson test in order to receive a proof mark.
The Wilkinson test involved hitting the flat and spine of the blade against a leather-covered wooden block multiple times with enough force to break or bend a blade if its heat treatment was incorrect.
Then, the blade would be placed in a vice while a sideways force was applied to the flat of the blade with a lever, that deformed the blade into a half-circle/hoop shape. If the blade's shape did not return to true afterwards, it would fail the test and not receive proofing.
