Inspiration Behind the Painting:

I have the most beautiful, bright California poppies growing in my garden in Barrydale, South Africa. I think our climate is very similar to that of California, hence why these blooms grow so prolifically.

The image showcases a vibrant arrangement of Californian poppies, elegantly stretching upwards against a soft, blended background of blues and golds. Each petal catches the light in a way that highlights their delicate textures and curves.

The background features subtle patterns and a metallic sheen, creating a sense of depth and movement that complements the lively blossoms. There are circular shapes, bubbles, jellyfish, pyramids and even camels woven into the design, adding an abstract quality that suggests whimsy and fluidity a lucid daydream. Symbolically, orange flowers represent joy, enthusiasm, excitement, passion, and energy.

I wanted the interplay of the bright floral elements with the cool background to evoke a contrast between vibrancy and tranquility, capturing the essence of nature's beauty.
The end result showcases a blend of realism with impressionistic techniques, drawing the viewer into a vivid, dreamlike realm.
