Floyd was born in April 1959 in Wattville, Benoni.
His family later moved to Tembisa near Kempton Park where he has lived since his childhood. From an early age he was very enthusiastic to draw and his talent was noticed by a local artist Sello Mthembu when he participated in a group exhibition at the Rabasotho Hall in Tembisa.
Floyd is a self taught artist although he did receive some guidance from Lukas Sithole and Morningstar Motaung. He works mainly in pastel and charcoal, sometimes also in acrylic. His works often depict scenes from daily life in the township. He comments that living in the township assures that he is never short of ideas for subjects. One of the most striking qualities in Floyds work is the originality of his style and his use of bright colours.
