An artwork by South African artist Lucas Mahome (1972 - )

Pastel on Paper

600mm x 435mm

Lucas Mahome was born in Attridgeville, Pretoria, in 1972. From early childhood Lucas loved drawing and painting. He went to school in Attridgeville and finished in Standard 8. He joined the Panda Association Art School where he studied art for two years. He then enrolled at the Johannesburg Art Foundation for two years. He mastered all the mediums in art and developed his own technique painting townships, rural scenes, abstract and musicians. Mahome's commercial breakthrough started when he approached the Goodman Gallery in Johannesburg. The gallery directors were impressed by his talent and sponsored his scholarship at the Johannesburg Art Foundation. The Goodman Gallery was also the first to purchase his work upon graduation. Lucas created a distinctly African look and feel. His artwork is colorful, full of uplifting uplifting scenes with people and musical performers.
