This oil painting of a Parisian street café on the Seine, with Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower in the background, looks like the kind of painting that was bought in the Latin Quarter of Pairs in the 1960/70’s as a memento of a visit to Paris. It appears the stretcher it is fixed onto, is a later addition. If you look at the sides of the canvas, it is obvious the image was reduced, as there is a fair amount of painting around the sides. It is possible that the original owners needed to fit the image into an old frame, or only had restricted wall space available, and this was how they resolved the problem. The canvas is stapled onto the stretcher, also suggesting it was done at a later stage. This ain’t no Picasso or Degas, but still charming enough to be worthy of wall space. The image on the stretcher measures: 25.5cm x 20cm. Please add R48 for postage.
