DESCRIPTION | A smallish framed original oil painting by South African artist Raymond O'Donaqhue. The painting depicts a lady doing the washing next to a Boland labourer's cottage and the artist has titled it 'Wasdag in die Boland' in pencil on the back. It is also dated 1971 underneath the artist's signature which appears in the bottom left corner. It is painted on artist's board (treated canvass on hardboard) and framed in a period frame of wood with canvass decoration between the inner and outer sections. This painting is smallish and in horizontal format. It measures 39 x 45 cm in the frame and 22 x 37 cm without the frame. In the image above you can see the item up for auction. See further images for more details. |
CONDITION | The artwork is in good condition with no paint loss and colours still very bright. The frame is also in very good condition. It is, however, very dirty and can do with a good general cleaning. |
A very well executed and attractive original oil painting done by a very capable artist who has certainly captured the essence of a charming washing day at a Boland worker's cottage. |
