ORIGINAL OILY WW2 TEARDROP SHAPED BRITISH ARMY DISPATCH / TANK DRIVER GOGGLES

A GOOD ORIGINAL PAIR OF TEARDROP SHAPED BRITISH ARMY MT GOGGLES WITH ORANGE TINTED GLASES AS WORN BY DRIVERS, TANK CREWS, DISPATCH RIDERS AND MORE, THROUGHOUT THE SECOND WORLD WAR.
 
The outer frames are made of non magnetic metal (I think it is nickel plated), with shatterproof orange tinted lenses within: The orange tinting was supposed to cut down the glare from the sun and prevent eyes from becoming strained or damaged. THE SIDES ARE SPRUNG AND HAVE A PADDED FUR SECTION WHERE THE GOGGLES TOUCH THE SKIN (AS I UNDERSTAND IT THIS INDICATES ITS AN EARLIER TYPE GOGGLES AS LATER ONES HAD LEATHER PADDING). Two leather tabs are attached, one at each side, for the straps to be fastened to. The straps themselves are elasticated and adjusted by two small slider buckles. I can find no official markings on these goggles, and precious little in the way of imagery online. There are however a couple of nice period photographs showing them being worn. I HAVE ADDED A FEW OLD PERIOD PHOTOS FOUND ONLINE.
 
THE CONDITION OF THE GOGGLES IS GOOD BUT COVERED IN SOME OIL RESIDUE FOR SOME REASON. The strap retains some of its original elasticity and the leather work is in good condition with some signs of wear and use. The metal frames are good with a lot of their original plated finish worn back through to the brass underneath. As is often the case with these goggles, the tinted lenses have some signs of delamination.

CONDITION: THE ELASTIC STRAP IS A BIT OILY BUT RETAINS SOME OF ITS ELASTICITY. METAL FRAMES HAS SOME WEAR BUT IS STRUCTURALLY GOOD. GLASS ORANGE TINTS IN GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION.
