Original acrylic painting by Lauren Gilmour, entitled "Origins", dated 2010.

90cm wide x 70cm high, unframed (but stretched canvas is still attached to 4cm deep hollow wooden frame with picture hangers, so can be hung as is).  The 4cm sides of the picture are painted in matt black.

The picture is in excellent condition.

Multi-style - combines 3 styles in 1 picture: abstract background; stylised image of mother; representational / figurative image of baby:

  • The background is painted in dark, bold colours with abstract images including of male, female, conception and birth.

  • The stylised mother figure is painted in a dark, matt outline and soft, metallic colours to show her special and unique place in the world as a pregnant woman bringing new life into the world.

  • The baby is painted only in metallic colours so that the image of the baby is almost obscure and changes depending on which angle it is viewed. This has been done to represent the fact that the baby is not yet born and therefore isn't actually yet 'of the world'.

Please see photographs for details.  Additional photographs can be taken on request.

Note from the seller: this is 1 of only about 20 acrylic artworks known to be produced by this artist. The others are in small, private collections throughout South Africa. The last known picture was produced in 2012.
