A rare find, rich with history and context by a prolific engraver and portrait painter in the early to mid 19-th Century, Richard Woodman.

Woodman was renowned in his early career following in his father's footsteps as an engraver, and later in his life being commissioned by noble society and Royal connections for portraits, such as Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales - with many of his works now held at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

In this example we have a pair of portrait paintings, circa 1850, of a nobleman and assuming his wife, painted in finely detailed and generously applied watercolours, in original (restored) frames.

There is a later written note on the reverse of the one frame noting the date painted as 1853.

Dimensions: each artwork measures 11,5 cm x 9 cm, and in frame 27,5 cm x 25,5 cm. (Code: 24BV203)
