OSWALD GERBER!! (SA ARTIST 1935-present) ORIGINAL 1975 WATERCOLOUR BEACH SCENE PAINTING

A FRAMED ORIGINAL WATERCOLOUR PAINTING BY FAMOUS SOUTH AFRICAN ARTIST OSWALD GERBER. IT DEPICTS A BEACH SCENE WITH A SMALL FISHERMANS BOAT AND OCEAN IN BACKGROUND.

IT WAS DONE IN 1975 EITHER WHEN THE ARTIST LIVED IN ST IVES IN ENGLAND OR JUST AFTER HE CAME BACK TO SOUTH AFRICA AT THE END OF THAT YEAR.

THIS IS THE FIRST OF THREE WATERCOLOUR PAINTINGS BY OSWALD GERBER THAT I HAVE ON AUCTION THIS WEEK. BUYERS ARE WELCOME TO DO A BATCH ORDER FOR ALL THREE.

OSWALD GERBER (1935-):
Oswald Gerber is a well known South African artist that has been painting for more than 60 years.
Most of his work I have seen is landscape and seascape watercolours in soft pastel colours.
He was a High School teacher for 5 years and lector at the teachers college in Pretoria for 15 years among other things. He lived in St Ives in England for a year in 1975. After coming back to South Africa he started to paint full time. The three paintings by him on auction this week date from that time. In the year 2000 he moved to the Greek island Paros and stayed there for a few months. He has done the covers and sketches of various books in South Africa and even had a stint in doing cartoons for the Hoofstad Newspaper during the 1960s.
In 2019 at 84 years old he moved to Jeffreys Bay and opened his own art gallery in the historical old home of George Pell. He is still painting full time.
