This remarkable Otodus Obliquus shark tooth fossil measures an impressive 63mm high by 43mm wide, showcasing the triangular, serrated crown and distinctive root structure that made these ancient predators so formidable. The fossil displays beautiful preservation with its characteristic cream coloration and visible growth lines.
Otodus Obliquus was a massive prehistoric shark that ruled the oceans approximately 60-45 million years ago during the Paleocene and Eocene epochs. These apex predators could reach lengths of up to 30 feet, making them among the largest sharks of their time. With powerful jaws lined with razor-sharp teeth like this specimen, they dominated marine ecosystems worldwide.
This fossil formed when the shark's tooth was rapidly buried in ocean sediments, preserving it through mineralization over millions of years. As tectonic forces shifted and sea levels changed, ancient ocean floors became exposed land. The Sahara Desert, once covered by vast seas, now yields these incredible specimens from the phosphate mines near Khouribga, Morocco.
