Acknowledged South African Old Master, who studied at the Vienna Academy of Arts and came to South Africa from Austria in 1939.
Taught art for many years and became one of South Africa's most sought-after artists.
Awarded an Honorary Professorship from the President of Austria in 1962 on recommendation from the Vienna Academy of Art.
The last portrait of a man by this artist sold by Strauss and Co. achieved a price of R22 800 on 7 September 2009.
