I. Opening the Key Box for the First Time (Factory Set Combination)
Your Kimtoan key lock box is usually set to a factory default combination. For many such lock boxes, this is 0-0-0-0.
Slide the shutter door down: This will reveal the dials and a door release button (or a similar mechanism).
Rotate the dials to the current combination (e.g., 0-0-0-0).
Push the door release button down (or slide a lever, depending on the model).
Pull the door fully open.
II. Setting Your Personal 4-Digit Combination
This is the most crucial part of the setup. Make sure you write down your new combination in a safe place!
With the key box door open (as per the steps above), locate the RESET lever on the back of the door. This lever usually has two positions, often marked 'A' and 'B', or "left/down" and "right/up".
Move the RESET lever to the "set" position. This typically involves pushing it to the right and upward, or down and to the left, depending on the exact design. You might feel it click into place.
Rotate the dials on the front of the door to your desired 4-digit combination. Choose a combination that is easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess (avoid "1111", "1234", or your birth year).
Move the RESET lever back to its original "locked" position. This typically involves pushing it down and to the left, or up and to the right, reversing the action from step 2. This locks in your new combination.
Before closing the door, TEST your new combination.
Scramble the dials.
Enter your new 4-digit combination.
Push the door release button. The door should open.
If it doesn't open, do NOT force it. Repeat steps 1-4 carefully to reset the combination.
Once you've confirmed your new combination works, close the door.
Scramble the dials again to hide your combination.
Close the shutter door to protect the dials from weather and to conceal your combination.
III. Mounting the Key Lock Box (Optional)
If you want to wall-mount your Kimtoan key lock box, follow these general steps:
Choose a secure and discreet location: Consider placing it in a less obvious spot, out of direct line of sight from the street, if possible.
Open the compartment door.
Position the lock box on the desired surface (e.g., a wall). Use a level to ensure it's vertical.
Mark the positions of the screw holes on the surface through the pre-drilled holes in the back of the lock box.
Remove the lock box.
Drill holes at the marked positions. If drilling into masonry or concrete, use a masonry drill bit and, if necessary, insert wall anchors (often provided).
Position the lock box over the drilled holes.
Insert and tighten the screws to secure the lock box to the wall.
Close and lock the compartment door.
Scramble the combination dials and close the shutter door.
Important Tips:
Keep the shutter door closed when not in use to increase weather resistance and protect the dials.
Rotate the dials weekly (even if not using the box) to keep them moving freely and prevent them from seizing up.
Do not use easily guessable combinations like "0000" or sequential numbers.
Write down your combination and store it in a secure place, away from the key box itself.
