Outstanding hand-painted and signed 28cm charger  Jammet-Seignolles,  Limoges Ref Oct116

In a small village, some 40km south of Limoges, legend has it that a certain Mme. Darnet used a 'white clay' to launder her linen. Her husband, a surgeon, puzzled by this clay, sent it for analyses. It proved to be kaolin of a remarkable purity.  That was in 1768, and heralded the beginning of the porcelain industry which developed in Limoges. The first factory opened in 1771 and the kaolin was found to produced superb, high-quality porcelain which was exceptionally translucent and white in color. The quarry  was purchased on behalf of Louis XVI and by 1890, there were thirty odd factories established. Most items were sent to Paris for decoration.
Jammet-Seignolles is one of the most prestigious and established names in Limoges porcelain.  Established way back in 1825 by Francis Seignolles, the company still uses traditional skills handed down from those days. The company recently completed a 3000 piece dinnerware service for the marriage of the crown prince of Spain, Felipe de Bourbon. In 2008, the factory received the "Living Heritage Company' label for its perfection and exceptional art.
The charger offered above dates, I believe, back to  the 1960-1980 era.
It is 28cm in diameter. Uniquely hand-painted, depicting a floral bouquet in the centre of the plate and signed by the artist. The gorgeous gilt trim of feathery scroll work only adds to its beauty.
The plate remains in superb condition with no scratches, chips or any rubbing to the gilding.
The backmark shows 'Porcelaine de Limoges written as a circle with the initials "JS" in the centre.
Below is the description 'Rehausse Main' meaning that both hand-painting and transfer techniques were incorporated in the design
