he Messerschmitt Me 262A-1a was the world’s first jet fighter to see combat, although misguidedly it was initially used for bombing. In the hands of a skilled pilot it was formidable with it’s  four MK108 canon. Generalleutnant Adolf Galland flying this aircraft formed an elite unit Jagdverband 44  from the cream of the Luftwaffe.
