P.E.T. IN ACTION: PARENT EFFECTIVENESS TRAINING
by Dr. Thomas Gordon

About the Book
This accessible companion to Thomas Gordons pioneering Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) program translates the principles of non-authoritarian, communication-based parenting into vivid real-life examples. With its emphasis on empathy, active listening, and conflict resolution, P.E.T. in Action offers practical methods for replacing punishment and power struggles with mutual respect and cooperation.

Endorsed by Carl R. Rogers and rooted in the humanistic psychology movement, the P.E.T. approach helped reshape late twentieth-century parenting by framing the family as a setting for shared learning and emotional growth rather than obedience and control.

About the Author
Dr. Thomas Gordon (19182002) was an American clinical psychologist and student of Carl Rogers. He developed the Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) model in 1962, followed by similar frameworks for teachers and leaders. His work on communication and conflict resolution earned him the American Psychological Foundations Gold Medal for Enduring Contribution to Psychology.
