Pachypodium geayi Seeds - Succulent Tree

Pachypodium is a plant genus that belongs to the family, Apocynaceae. Pachypodium comes from Greek pachy (thick) and podium (foot), hence meaning thick-footed. Pachypodium geayi is very similar to Pachypodium lamerei the except leaves are a darker blue-green and have a light gray fine hair covering them. The leaves have light pink to red veins that produce a purple leaf appearance.

Bizarre and beautiful the Pachypodium geayi is a must have for any plant collection. This very unique and palm-like tropical succulent from Madagascar is very easy to grow. It makes a bold statement when planted in the landscape, but works equally as well as a patio or houseplant.

The Madagascar Palm can be grown in full sun to light shade in frost-free areas. It will commonly branch out, and turn into a strange and attractive tree. The light gray trunk of this plant is usually bulging and is uniformly covered with long and sharp needles that are about 2-3 inches in length. Mature landscape specimens will bloom profusely with large white and fragrant, Plumeria-like flowers.

This moderately fast grower can normally grow to a height of 8-12 feet when planted as a landscape specimen. It has a unique form that is sure to please.
