Pacific Star 19411945 Miniature Original Second World War Campaign Award
Original miniature Pacific Star, as issued for operational service in the Pacific theatre during the Second World War.
The Pacific Star was instituted in 1945 and awarded to British and Commonwealth forces who served in the Pacific campaign between 8 December 1941 and 2 September 1945. Qualifying service included operations in Malaya, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Dutch East Indies, Borneo, the Philippines, and the Pacific islands. The star was also awarded to those who served in certain adjacent areas, including Northern Australia and the South China Sea. Recipients of the Pacific Star typically first qualified for the Burma Star or the Defence Medal, but the Pacific Star superseded them for service specifically directed against Japan in the Pacific region. This miniature version was privately purchased for mess dress, tailcoat, or miniature medal bar displays.
The sixpointed star features a central circular design bearing the royal cypher of King George VI surrounded by the inscription THE PACIFIC STAR. The ribbon is 32 mm wide, consisting of a dark green central stripe representing the jungle, flanked by two yellow stripes for the beaches, and two red stripes on the edges for the forces and the bloodshed of battlecolours chosen to symbolise the landscape of Pacific island campaigns.
A superb addition for:
