The Paddle Leaf Anthurium is all about presence. With its big, paddle-shaped leaves and strong upright growth, it's the kind of plant that instantly becomes a focal point in any room. If you're looking for a plant that's both bold and elegant, this one ticks all the boxes.
Plants are in a 14cm pot.
The plant that I'm holding is for reference on the size it gets.
Commonly known as: Paddle Leaf Anthurium
Botanical name: Anthurium Coriaceum
The Paddle Leaf Anthurium is a plant that knows how to make a statement. Its leaves are large, glossy, and paddle-shaped, giving it a bold, sculptural look that feels a little bit exotic and a lot sophisticated. It's one of those plants that doesn't just sit quietly in the corner it stands tall and brings structure to your space.
Light:
This Anthurium loves good light, but not the scorching kind. Bright, indirect light is its happy place. If it's in a darker corner, you'll find the leaves grow slower and stay smaller. Too much direct sun, though, and those big leaves can scorch. So a spot near a bright window with filtered light is just right.
💧 Watering:
Anthuriums enjoy moisture, but they hate sitting in soggy soil. Water when the top couple of centimetres of soil are dry, then let the water drain out properly. It's a good rhythm to check weekly, and if the pot feels light, it's probably time for a drink.
🌡 Temperature & Humidity:
Warmth and a bit of humidity keep this plant happy. Anywhere between 1828°C works well. It won't sulk if your home is average humidity, but if you want those big leaves looking lush, a bit of extra misting or a pebble tray helps.
🪴 Soil & Repotting:
Paddle Leaf Anthuriums prefer airy soil. Our Aroid Mix is ideal, or mix Barks Unlimited Potting Soil with Perlite. Adding Bark Chips gives roots room to breathe. Repot every year or two to refresh the mix and give it space to keep growing.
🍃 Fertiliser:
This plant is a feeder. Use Controlled Release Fertiliser every few months, and top up with an Organic Fertiliser during the growing season. Regular feeding keeps leaves large and glossy.
🐛 Pests:
Anthuriums are fairly tough, but if you see pests like aphids or mealybugs, a quick spray with insecticidal spray sorts them out. Wiping the leaves keeps them looking polished.
The Paddle Leaf Anthurium isn't just another houseplant it's a centrepiece. Strong, bold, and surprisingly easy to look after once you get the basics right.
