Pair of Brass Taper Candlesticks with Wax Pans Taper Candles Included

ON AUCTION IS A NICE PAIR OF BRASS TAPER CANDLESTICKS WITH BRASS WAX PAN AND PLASTIC WAX SPIL RINGS. TWO TAPER CANDLES INCLUDED. THE STEMS HAVE BEAUTIFULLY SHAPED SHOULDERS AND KNOBS
 
These small tapers candlesticks were frequently required during daily 18th century life when they first became popular.  They were often made from brass.
 
Often tapersticks were also included as part of inkstands, as letters were often sealed with wax melted over the small tallow candle flames and then impressed with an intaglio carved with initials or the family crest.  Tapersticks also served as chambersticks, as they were small and light and easy to carry from room to room, as well as for the purpose of lighting other candlesticks or for the lighting of tobacco.
