Title: Pair of Paragon "Athena" Pattern Fine Bone China (Two) Dinner Plates. Manufactured By: Paragon China Ltd, Stoke-On-Trent, England. Height: 2.0cm. Diameter: 27.0cm. (10 5/8 Inch) Info: The Athena pattern, a Gold Border with Black Dots on Brilliant White Bone China, is a pattern that was produced by Paragon from 1987 to 1990. The Pattern is part of the Corinth bone china collection, which draws heavily on Grecian inspiration in its smooth lines and subtle fluting. The Star China company was founded in 1897 as a partnership between Herbert Aynsley (great-grandson of the founder of Aynsley China) and Hugh Irving. In 1919, after Aynsley's retirement the company name was changed to Paragon China Company Limited. In its early history the firm manufactured tea and breakfast wares, exporting to Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. However, in the 1930s, Paragon expanded both its market, to include the Americas, and its range of products to include dinnerware. The 1960s saw the company change hands several times, owned for a while by T.C. Wild, then forming part of Allied English Potteries, then becoming part of Royal Doulton. The Paragon name has been retained, mainly with designs based on traditional floral patterns. Unfortunately the early Paragon pattern books are presumed lost, however the royal commemorative designs are still sought by collectors. wikipedia. Condition: Very Good, the gold edging on the patterns in very good condition, no cracks or chips on the bowls. Price: R 380.00 Inc Vat for the Two Dinner Plates.
