DESCRIPTION:
A pair of late 20th century Chinese cloisonné ovoid vases, each decorated with two
Imperial dragons on a blue ground. In Chinese mythology the dragon is a blessed,
lucky and benevolent beast. It is also powerfully symbolic. When shown with five
claws, it is known as the Imperial Dragon, as on these vases. The dragons are
shown swimming through the waves, while chasing the sacred pearl (tama).
This pearl is symbolic of wisdom, rebirth and qi, the creator of all energy
and life. The pearl is shown emitting flames that look like sprouting seeds.

No loss of enamel or chips, except to the base of one vase (see close-up image).
