PALE PURPLISH PINK NATURAL KUNZITE 13,18CT GEMSTONE FROM AFGANISTAN WITH BEAUTIFUL MIXED CUSTOM OCTAGON CUT

A SOFT PALE PURPLISH PINK LARGE 13,18CT NATURAL KUNZITE GEMSTONE FROM AFGANISTAN WITH BEAUTIFUL MIXED CUSTOM OCTAGON CUT. COMES WITH A BEAUTIFUL PERSPEX PRESENTATION CASE AND VELVET BAG.

THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT FROM A SELLER IN BANGKOK THAILAND WITH THE COUNTRY OF ORIGEN INDICATED AS AFGANISTAN. IT HAS A SI2 (INCLUSIONS VISIBLE) CLARITY WHICH MEANS inclusions are noticable and can be seen with the naked eye. IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS AN NATURAL GEMSTONE WITH NO TREATMENTS APPLIED.

THIS KUNZITE GEMSTONE HAS A SUPPLIED GISA (GEMMOLOGY INSTITUTE OF SOUTHERN AFRICA) CERTIFICATE. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT HAVE A GOOD REPUTATION ONLINE. THEY COULD NOT BE CONTACTED BY CONTACT DETAILS SUPPLIED ON THE BACK. THERE IS NO WEBSITE TO CHECK PAST REPORTS THAT I COULD FIND. I DO NOT KNOW IF STILL IN EXISTENCE. TO THEIR CREDIT THOUGH I HAVE SEEN CERTIFICATES BY THEM THAT I COULD INDEPENDENTLY VERIFY THAT THEY HAVE CORRECTLY STATED THE GEMSTONES QUALITIES EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NOT SO GOOD.

I THINK THAT IT IS INDEED A REAL KUNZITE GEMSTONE AS IT PASSED ALL THE TESTS I COULD PERFORM:
PASSED THE SCRATCH TEST: IT SCRATCHES GLASS IT IS HARDER THAN GLASS.

(MOHS HARDNESS GLASS 5.5-6.5 KUNZITE 7.0)
PASSED THE ELECTRON UV LIGHT EMISSION TEST: NO UV REACTION.
Kunzite does not fluorescence but can have a magical glow of intense pinks and warm peach hues for several minutes after an ultraviolet light source is removed.
(THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE. ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.)
PASSED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 4. FOR KUNZITE A LEVEL OF 4 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER SINCE ITS THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY IS JUST BELOW THAT OF QUARTZ.
(WITH THIS TESTER GLASS MAKES NO MOVEMENT BUT QUARTZ ALSO MOVE UP A LITTLE TO NO 4.)

SIZE: 13,40mm x 11,61mm x 9,60mm

DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT. THESE GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. I HAVE TRIED TO VERIFY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE ANY STATEMENTS OR CLAIMS BY DOING SOME THOROUGH RESEARCH AND SOME PRELIMINARY TESTS ON EACH GEMSTONE.

KUNZITE:

Kunzite was first discovered in San Diego, California in 1902. So it is an a fairly young stone in the market. But it has become very popular in recent years as consumers have fallen in love with pink gemstones.
Kunzite is composed of lithium, aluminum and silicate. Kunzite forms prismatic crystals that have the attribute of pleochroism, meaning that they display two or more colors depending on the viewing angle; usually the three colors that are present are violet, pink and clear.
Kunzite is relatively hard, with a hardness of seven just like quartz. However, Kunzite should be handled with care because, like diamond, it has a distinct cleavage. A sharp blow, if it lands in the wrong place, can break it in two.
Kunzite can come in a beautiful and intense pink, pastel pink, bubblegum pink, light baby blush pink or power pink, or violet. The pink color appears due to the presence of manganese impurity in the chemical composition. Darker shades of pink are considered more valuable but Kunzites are more commonly found displaying a fairly light color.
If you are purchasing a very pale piece of kunzite, you might pay less than $10 per carat. By comparison if you are paying for an average pink gemstone you might pay $50 per carat but a deeply rich pink stone might cost $180 per carat.
Kunzite is expensive simply because it isn't found in many places around the world. The two biggest places include Afghanistan in Brazil, with a few smaller deposits in nearby Pakistan and a handful of other countries.
