Large hardcover with dustjacket. The jacket is very tatty and torn and missing bits (the backflap is gone). However, the book itself is in great condition.
By the once Director of the King George VI Gallery and the Chairman of the Historical Society of Port Elizabeth, this is a well researched and lavishly illustrated history of Port Elizabeth from the arrival of Bartholomew Dias in 1488 to the end of the 19thC. A large, attractive overview of Port Elizabeth - its history & personalities, and esp. its architecture, with superbly reproduced illus (colour & b/w) by early painters such as Baines & Bowler, also Grogan.
In my opinion, this is a superb book - having seen quite a few 'histories' of PE, I think that this is one of the best!
