Parktown Centenary Souvenir: 1892 - 1992

One hundred years ago, the stands in the about-to-be-proclaimed township of Park Town were laid out asawayfrom the centre of the dust bowl that was then Johannesburg asthey could be. Randlords flocked there. The Jameson Raid wasplotted there. Lord Milner, eventually to reconstruct the remainsof the shattered Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek and steer theprovince into becoming part of the Union of South Africa, livedthere.Tracking the life of Parktown through the one hundred years ofprogress gives an incredible insight not only into the lives of itsearlier inhabitants, but also into urban encroachment,redevelopment and the need for conservation.
