Paul Kruger Imitation Pond (Laidlaw 0210h // Withers 08)
According to Professor Michael Laidlaw's southafricanmedals.com, the imitation Ponde were used as gaming counters from 1896 onwards. There are 13 known varieties of the 1 Pond imitation. Paul Withers (2002) has numbered these 2-14 (1 being for the ½ Pond). The varieties have been made from combinations of 10 different obverse die types and 8 different reverse die types. The differences are sometimes minor.
Using Laidlaws and Withers descriptions as a guide, I have tried to list most of the known varieties, but as mistakes may be possible, I advise bidders to consult southafricanmedals.com (numbers 0210a to 0210n) and compare those descriptions and pictures with the listing(s) here.
I have two of these tokens available and bidding is per item.
