A pearlescent cup and saucer by Thury of Czechoslovakia produced most probably in the Art Deco period. Bohemia was well-known at this time for its fine porcelain and crystal. This lovely cup and saucer is decorated with a rim of roses on a black ground, and accentuated by the black art deco lines.
It is not so easy to see the pearlescent effect in these photographs. The scalloped area between the roses and the concentric black line is pearlised with a pinky-purple-yellow sheen that reflects differently as exposed to the light.
This cup and saucer is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Only very slight signs of use. There is also a number imprinted into the porcelain at the bottom of the saucer which appears to be 1340 or 1349.
