The Pekin Lilac is a small tree or large multi-stemmed shrub, growing just 4.5 to 6 meters tall and fits nicely into a typical home landscape. It is a related species to the Japanese Tree Lilac and blooms in late spring to early summer with fragrant creamy white flowers on 7 to 15 cm long panicles. Its smooth, dark-green leaves and shiny, coppery, exfoliating bark adds to the ornamental qualities of this tree. Hardy to -39°C. Lilacs are among the most popular cultivated shrubs in the temperate world. Aside from roses, there is no flower as beautiful and aromatic. There is nothing better than the sweet scent of a freshly picked bouquet of lilacs in early spring.
