DESCRIPTION | A COPPERPLATE ETCHING DEPICTING 'WONDERBOOM DRIFT, PRETORIA, TRANSVAAL' by British artist (engraver) HILDA MAY PEMBERTON (1880 - 1956). The etching is mounted on a double mount, protected by glass and framed in a black frame which shows the work to it's best effect. The artwork is signed ANDRE NAUDE in the bottom right margin and titled in the bottom left margin. It measures 350 x 380 mm in the frame and the artwork alone measures 150 x 200 mm. You can see this lovely etching as it is sold in the image above. There are more images and further particulars below. Please have a look at them and ask a question if there is anything you are unsure about. |
CONDITION | Both the etching and frame are in excellent condition. |
HILDA MAY PEMBERTON (1880 - 1956) produced a few etchings of typical South African scenes which are regarded as being as good, if not better, than those produced by Thinus de Jongh. She was a British artist who visited South Africa in 1931 and did the etchings during that visit. A number of these etchings are signed by Andre Naude who is unknown as a South African artist and may not even have been an artist. Apparently these are etchings which were printed from Hilda Pemberton's copper plates after she had returned to Britain. The etching on offer here is one of those. |
