Description:
This is a Baluchi salt bag. It is an older, collectable piece & can be used as a rug or as a wall hanging.
Baluch rugs are woven near the South-Eastern border of Iran and in Western regions of Afganistan. Being of tribal and often nomadic origin, the Baluch rugs are generally small in size. Colors of Baluch rugs are usually predominantly a rich burgundy with some very dark navy blue and accents of ivory. Any Baluch rug is one of a kind and has absolutely no duplicates anywhere in the world.
Salt bags are used by shepherds to hold salt. They use this rock salt to feed their sheep when they need them to drink and retain more water. For instance, when the snow melts the shepherds move their flocks to higher altitudes to feed on thicker grasses. Rock salt causes the sheep to drink more and retain that water weight so that they can go without water for about 3 days longer than an unsalted flock in the same conditions.
